The name Huehuetenango means “Place of the Ancients,” and the region is one of the few non-volcanic coffee- producing areas in the country. This coffee is grown in the rugged, secluded valleys of the western Guatemalan highlands and medium roasted to preserve the honey and milk chocolate notes. There is a noticeable fruit-like flavor reminiscent of red apples, making this cup absolutely delicious.

The region's coop is dedicated to helping farmers learn and utilize methods of sustainable agricultural, production and organic farming, which serves to preserve and enhance the flavor of this already spectacular coffee.

Scarlet Macaw

The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a large red, yellow, and blue Central and South American parrot, a member of a large group of Neotropical parrots called macaws.

Habitat
Native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics.

Range
Extends from south-eastern Mexico to the Peruvian Amazon, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela and Brazil.

Life Span
Estimated at 40-50 year in the wild, up to 90 years in captivity.

Conservation Status: Heavily Threatened
Scarlet Macaws are extinct from many areas of which they used to habitat, this includes areas of Mexico & Central America. Populations of macaws are threatened due to illegal trafficking, poaching and the destruction of habitat through deforestation. Further, the spraying of pesticides by companies cultivating and selling bananas for export played a significant role in decreasing Scarlet Macaw populations.
